DRM, Copy Protection, and You
Submitted by Eric on June 26, 2008 - 10:56pmThere's a topic that I've been wanting to write about now for some time, but never got around to doing it. However, my latest battle with 'content protection' has provided the frustration and impetus to make this article a reality. What am I talking about? Simply put, copy protection schemes and DRM do not stop piracy. Rather, they anger and frustrate legitimate consumers, making piracy a more enticing alternative.
I understand that film makers, music artists, and software companies deserve to be paid for their work and intellectual property. I would think that most honest people would agree. This is not a concept that I take issue with. However, DRM or "Digital Rights Management" is not the answer. In fact, due to draconian content protection systems, pirating the material is often times a more attractive solution for people than playing by the rules and doing things “the right way.” To this end, here is a list of several situations I have run into, and why the current content protection systems make the prospect of piracy all the more alluring.
Today's YouTube Round-up
Submitted by The Big Giant Head on June 26, 2008 - 4:49amThe so-called Kostamojan said that basically tf2.org has become one big youtube gallery, and you know what? DAMN RIGHT, and better than the basic desert of a website he has. Yes! That's right! I'm trash talking YOU!
That said, I run into funnies and I post them. Period. And yes, there are "articles" here too -- if you want to call them that -- but you know what? Who all has the patience for reading much these days? The day we can just download everything instantly into our head and immediately understand/process it... the better? What do you think?
What would these people think?

Today's Important Lessons

For those of you staying in today, please avoid Fox News as they never say anything of interest, and do not further fund anything having to do with Harry Potter. Instead, why not watch an international film?
If you are like me though, you will most likely just wind up playing video games.
